Course Information
Course:	Self-Reliant Diver
Training Description:	With proper training, equipment and the right attitude to accept the risks involved in independent diving, an experience diver can responsibly engage in dives without a buddy. Self-reliant diving is an adventure activity that is not for everyone, but does have its place. If you have the mental discipline and commitment to learn and follow self-reliant diving techniques, you'll bolster your skills and confidence when diving alone, in a dive pair or as part of a team.
Diver Prerequisites:	By the start of the course, a diver must: 1. Be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver* or have a qualifying certification from another training organization. 2. Have a minimum 100 logged dives. 3. Be 18 years of age or older. 4. Successfully complete a dive skills assessment by a PADI Self-Reliant Diver Specialty Instructor.
Equipment:	Required for Student Diver • Surface marker buoy, such as a delayed surface marker buoy (DSMB) or lift bag with at least 100 feet of line • Redundant gas source – pony cylinder, twin cylinders with isolation valve or sidemount configuration. Redundant gas supply must be configured so that the diver can access it with one hand • Redundant dive computer or depth gauge and bottom timer • Redundant surface signaling devices (both visual and audible) • Knife/cutting tool (except where locally prohibited) • Slate and pencil • Back-up mask (recommended)
Setting:	Classroom/Open Water
Classroom:	There is no manual for this class, so all teaching is done by classroom instruction.
Confined Water:	None
Open Water:	3 open water dives
Training Remarks:	Course fees are for the cost of classroom training, open water instruction, and certification processing. Cost of open water dives (i.e. site entry fees, air costs, and any hotel accommodations needed) are not included. Location of open water dives will be worked out with the students and instructor during/after class completion.
